After receiving an MA in Performance Studies from Northwestern, composer, playwright Curtis crisscrossed the country, working as a musical director and theatrical sound designer for theaters from New York to California before returning to Chicago in 2003. Since then, he has completed three full-length original musicals; Fairways, the Musical, (score) Steel Beam Theatre 2009, Chronic Malcontents, (book, lyrics and score) Endpoint Theatre 2013, and Waking Lazarus, (book, lyrics and score) Prologue Theatre 2016. Curtis also composed a new musical score for Prologue Theatre’s 2014 revival of Trafford Tanzi (book and lyrics by Claire Luckham), a musical originally produced in London in 1979, but for which only the book and lyrics survived. In addition, Curtis has produced sound designs for numerous theatres in the US, most recently for the Steppenwolf Theater Garage Rep’s production of Saturday Night/Sunday Morning by Katori Hall. As an actor, Curtis was recently seen on stage in The Gift Theatre’s production of Matt Smart’s The Royal Society of Antarctica, winner of a 2015 Jeff award for Best New Work.
