Crystal Skillman

CRYSTAL SKILLMAN is a Brooklyn based playwright.

She is the award winning author of CUT (The Management in Spring 2011, NY Times critic’s pick) VIGIL or THE GUIDED CRADLE (ITG/Brick; 2010 New York Innovative Theatre Award for Outstanding Full-Length Script); and NOBODY & BIRTHDAY (Directed by Daniel Talbott for Rising Phoenix Rep in NYC; U.K Premiere with Kibbo Productions with director Sharon Willems, and in Chicago at The Side Project.)

Her play WILD was just featured Off-Broadway at the Lucielle Lortel as part of MCC Theater Playwrightsé─˘ Coalition Playlab reading series; WILD will debut in Chicago under the direction of Evan Caccioppoli this June 14th - July 1st 2012.

This spring ANOTHER KIND OF LOVE was workshopped at IRT with director GT Upchurch for Overturn Theatre; CUT finished a run in Boston at Apollinaire Theatre and just came out in a publication from Sam French; 4 EDGES was featured in the Groundbreakers festival at the New Ohio Theater; and SEX & DEATH IN LONDON was heard in RPRé─˘s Cino Nights Series downtown.

She is honored her new play commission for Vampire Cowboys, GEEK, will premiere in Spring 2013 in NYC under the direction of Robert Ross Parker.

In addition to Sam French, who also published BIRTHDAY & NOBODY, you will also find her plays at Smith & Kraus, Out of Time and Place, and Play: A Journal of Plays. Her adaptations include the stage version of the graphic novel ACTION PHILOSOPHERS!

Crystal was named one of Manhattan é─˙Best Ofsé─¨ for OurTownNY magazine, selected as one of nytheatre.comé─˘s fifteen People of the Year for 2011, and is one of the six writers chosen for this yearé─˘s Groundbreakers Group. She is at The Gersh Agency and a member of the MCC Theater Playwrightsé─˘ Coalition, Rising Phoenix Rep, Soho Rep Lab alumni, as well as an alumni member of the Womené─˘s Project.
